WHO WE ARE | ||
Northern Plains Dairy is a partnership between the Dave Mogensen family and the Mark Davis Family. It is designed to milk about 2,400 Jersey cows and host to about 600 Jersey dry cows making a total of 3,000 animals on site. The facility will utilize free stall barns with mattresses to provide optimum cow comfort. Bedding will be done with composted manure solids. The manure will be digested in an anaerobic digester for about twenty days and the resulting methane gas will be harvested and burned in a generator to provide electricity and heat for the farm and surplus power for sale to the grid. |
The liquid manure exiting the digester will be separated so that the majority of the solids can be composted for bedding and fertilizer. The remaining liquid portion will be stored in a lagoon until fall when it will be injected into farmland for fertilizer. The milk produced at the dairy will be made into cheese and whey byproducts. The calves will be sold and heifers will be bought back at breeding time. CORRESPONDENCE |
